Why?

Your liberality appalls –
For when you have the hand to save
You’d rather own us as your slaves –

Platitudes of things are nice
But words alone cannot suffice –
And throwing George and Lincoln, too
Will make the problem fresh and new –

Do you suggest I pay more bread
Put you at peace within your head?
To save those souls who cannot bring
Their ethical work to build new things?

Practice the words you preach so loud
Or go away and leave me be
For I know where I’ll always stand
Between yourself and your demands.
