Beach Poem

The mighty oak fell silently
its branches crashing to the sea
a screaming moan cried out alone
as twisted roots from earth went free -
And carried outward to the tide
sea had sculpted free its hide -
and gone the braches, gone the leaves
alone the log went with the seas

The hand of neptune carved the knots
the salt preserved it from the rot -
Until one day it did land
upon the whitest grains of sand
no longer of an earthly place
the driftwood filled that empty space
with that which only God could make
and of which no man could take
